Family History Center (FHC) The FHC is located on Bernardo Heights Parkway between Pomerado Road and Paseo Lucido at 15750 Bernardo Heights Pkwy. in Rancho Bernardo. (858) 487-2304. Note: Poway FHC is in Rancho Bernardo. There is another FHC nearby in Escondido at 2255 Felicita Rd. and a large FHC at 4195 Camino Del Rio in Mission Valley. Family History Library (FHL) The collection includes over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records; 742,000 microfiche; 310,000 books, serials, and other formats; 4,500 periodicals; 700 electronic resources. Most microfilms can be ordered by and viewed at the local FHC for about $6.00 for shipping. Microfiche can usually be ordered for less, and take longer to receive because the copies are made for the FHC and do not need to be returned. More and more FHL records are being digitized and made available online. When they are, the FHL catalog usually links to the site. Family History Resources, a short list www. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just need some advice. Deborah Bruno, beanycecil@aol.com Also, if there is a small group from your club that would like to visit the Family History Center, we can arrange to give you a group tour with a chance to use the computers and look through the books and microfilms that are in house. Of course, anyone is welcome to visit the Family History Center anytime during normal operating hours, Wed., Thurs., Fri. from 9:00 to noon and other times by appointment. There are almost always staff people and patrons there on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00, but one should check on the off chance that someone did not schedule for that particular Tuesday evening, since it is a "by-appointment" time. The FHC is staffed by volunteers and closes during the Christmas/New Years period so that people can have time with their families. |
